Amazon ads land in ChatGPT and FBA stock deadline hits 16 Sept

Week commencing Monday 14 September 2026. Amazon opened a route for DSP advertisers into ChatGPT ads, the first FBA cut-off for Prime Big Deal Days lands on 16 September, and the holiday peak surcharge is confirmed for 15 October. Add eBay's forced AI listing tool and a TikTok Shop navigation shuffle and this is a week where multichannel sellers need to check both their stock plan and their listing data.

Amazon is starting to sell your ad budget into ChatGPT

On 10 September Amazon Ads announced a partnership with OpenAI that lets selected US advertisers extend existing Amazon Ads campaigns into conversational placements inside ChatGPT. It is a managed pilot bought through Amazon DSP, OpenAI still controls when and where ads show, and Delta Vacations is one of the first named testers.

Most sellers cannot buy this yet, and that is fine. The point is the direction of travel: discovery is drifting away from the search bar and towards an assistant that reads your product data and decides whether to mention you. Titles, bullets, attributes and images that are thin or inconsistent across channels will simply be skipped, which is why keeping one clean source of listing data and pushing it out through /flow matters more this quarter than it did last.

There is a cost side too. New ad surfaces usually mean new line items before they mean new sales, and managed DSP spend is easy to lose track of against an ACoS number. Judge it on net profit per SKU after ads, fees and returns, which is what /profitability is built to show across every channel at once rather than one dashboard at a time.

Two Q4 dates that decide your margin

First, 16 September. That is the last of Amazon's FBA arrival deadlines for Prime Big Deal Days, with earlier cut-offs of 9 and 2 September depending on the marketplace. Deal submissions closed on 8 September, so the promotion gate shut before the inventory gate. If your shipment is not booked in to arrive, you are not in Amazon's first big Q4 event.

Second, 15 October. The 2026 holiday peak fulfilment surcharge runs from then until 14 January and averages around $0.32 per unit in the US and Canada, on top of the existing 3.5% fuel and inflation surcharge. On a low-priced unit that is a real slice of the margin, and it applies whether the unit sells at full price or in a promotion.

Practical order of work this week: confirm what is landing before 16 September and what has slipped, then rebuild your Q4 cost model with the extra 32 cents baked in. Use /inventory to see what actually needs restocking before peak rather than shipping everything, and check the after-fee number on each SKU in /profitability before you commit to a discount you cannot afford in November.

Quick hits

  • eBay: sellers report errors and disrupted workflows from the Magical Listing AI rollout, with no clear opt-out, while eBay calls it a success - proofread every AI-written listing, because wrong details come back as returns and defects on your account.
  • Amazon: shopper-facing Price History now shows 365 days instead of 90 - a price rise before a "deal" is visible to buyers all the way back through last Q4, so keep your everyday price honest.
  • TikTok Shop: a Seller Center navigation update on 7 September moved order, fulfilment and listing tools, following new packaging and shipping rules on 3 September - log in and re-check both before your next batch ships.
  • Etsy: sellers are being asked to sign a petition for simpler, harmonised EU Extended Producer Responsibility packaging rules - the first sign that per-country EPR registration might get less painful for low-volume sellers.

On your radar next week

  • Tuesday 16 September: final FBA arrival deadline for Prime Big Deal Days stock.
  • Thursday 24 September: eBay's deadline to remove standalone airbags, inflators and steering wheel airbag covers from active, scheduled and draft listings. Permitted related parts such as control units and crash sensors need pre-approval in the US.
  • 22-24 September: Amazon Accelerate at the Seattle Convention Center, standard in-person registration $599. Fee, fulfilment and tool changes for next year usually surface here, so watch the keynote either way.
  • Wednesday 15 October: holiday peak fulfilment surcharge begins and runs to 14 January.
