B&Q Marketplace Seller Fees: What You Pay and What You Keep

24 October 2026

The B&Q Marketplace is one of the UK's larger home improvement marketplaces, and sellers searching for it usually want one answer first: what does it cost, and what is left? The honest answer is that the published figures vary by source and by date, so this guide sets out what is reported, where it comes from, and how to work out what you would keep on each order.

What B&Q says about its marketplace

B&Q's own marketplace page says the marketplace launched in 2022 and offers over 1.2 million products from more than 1,100 verified sellers. Sellers go through what B&Q describes as an extensive verification process covering regulatory, legal and quality requirements, and must meet a service standard consistent with B&Q. On orders from verified sellers, the buyer's contract is with the seller and the seller arranges delivery. The marketplace runs on Mirakl, and interested sellers apply through the "Become a B&Q verified seller" link on B&Q's marketplace page.

What sellers are reported to pay

B&Q does not publish a simple fee table on its public marketplace page, so the figures below come from seller guides and trade coverage. Treat them as a guide to the shape of the costs, not as a quote.

  • ChannelEngine's B&Q marketplace guide (February 2024): no setup fee, a monthly fee of £39 and a commission of 7% to 15% depending on category
  • Digital Fridays' guide (January 2025): a monthly subscription of £39 and a sales commission of 12% to 20% depending on product category, with payouts every two weeks
  • ChannelX's report on European sellers joining B&Q (November 2025): zero listing fees and transparent commission
  • The UK government's Business Academy listing for a B&Q Marketplace online event on 27 October 2026: a free three-month subscription for eligible businesses

Put together, the picture is a monthly subscription (reported at £39, with a free introductory period for some eligible sellers), no per-listing fee, and a commission that depends on category. The two guides disagree on the commission range, which is a good reason to ask B&Q for your category's current rate before you price anything.

Working out what you keep on one order

A commission rate on its own tells you very little. What matters is what the order leaves after every cost. Here is one worked example. All figures are illustrative and exclude VAT, so replace them with your own.

  • Sale price: £60.00
  • Commission at 12%: £7.20
  • Delivery to the customer: £9.50
  • Product cost: £28.00
  • Allowance for returns, at 3%: £1.80
  • Monthly subscription share, with £39 spread over 100 orders: £0.39

That leaves about £13.11, or roughly 22% of the sale price. If the commission in your category were 20% instead, the commission line would be £12.00 and the same order would leave about £8.31, roughly 14%. Same product, same price, a very different business. Bulky items make the gap bigger, because delivery and returns grow while the percentage costs stay the same.

What to check before you list

  • Your category's current commission rate and whether the subscription applies to you
  • Your real delivery cost per item, not an average, especially for bulky or fragile products
  • Your returns rate on similar products elsewhere, so the allowance is realistic
  • How your price compares with the same product on your other channels

How much does it cost to sell on the B&Q Marketplace?

Reported costs are a monthly subscription (£39 in 2024 and 2025 seller guides), a commission by category, and no per-listing fee. B&Q has also offered a free three-month subscription to eligible businesses. Confirm current terms with B&Q.

Do I need to be VAT registered?

Seller guides commonly say that sellers need to be VAT registered. Check B&Q's current requirements when you apply.

Who ships orders and handles returns?

The seller arranges delivery, according to B&Q. B&Q says most products can be returned by home collection or at a B&Q store, depending on the seller.

Is selling on B&Q worth it?

It depends on your products, prices and costs. The reliable way to find out is to measure profit per order and per SKU on real sales, then compare it with the same products on your other channels.

WhatSales connects to your B&Q seller account through Mirakl and shows profit per order and per SKU after commission, delivery and refunds.
