B&Q Marketplace Seller Guide: Know Your Profit

21 October 2026

The B&Q Marketplace gives UK sellers access to the traffic of one of the country's best-known home improvement retailers. B&Q's marketplace runs on Mirakl, which also shapes how orders and commission reach you.

How to become a B&Q Marketplace seller

B&Q launched its marketplace on diy.com in 2022, built on Mirakl, and third-party sellers fulfil their own orders. Seller guides and trade coverage describe the route in on as an application, an assessment against B&Q's criteria, onboarding where you accept the marketplace terms and pass business and product checks, and then listing products and setting up shipping, returns and payments. B&Q's own Merchant Hub is the place to confirm current requirements, because details change.

  • Expect to be VAT registered, as seller guides commonly state, and to have business details ready for verification
  • B&Q has promoted zero listing fees and a commission on each sale, so confirm your category's commission rate with B&Q before you price anything
  • You handle your own shipping and returns, so those costs sit on your side of the margin
  • Since late 2025, sellers from several European countries, including Germany, Ireland, Italy, Poland, the Netherlands and Spain, have been able to sell to UK shoppers on B&Q

Trade reporting of Kingfisher's half-year results put B&Q marketplace sales up 45.4% year on year to £228m. Growing demand is the reason many sellers apply, and also the reason to know what each order actually earns before you scale.

Why margin is easy to lose track of

A sales total in your seller account says what came in. Between commission, fulfilment costs and refunds, it does not say what stayed. Bulky or fragile products can add shipping and return costs, which makes the gap larger.

What to track on every B&Q order

  • Mirakl commission at its actual rate, not an assumed one
  • Fulfilment and shipping, whether you ship or a partner does
  • Ad spend behind the specific sale
  • Refunds and returns, charged back to the product
  • Cost of goods and any operating costs

Compare B&Q with your other channels

The key question is whether B&Q earns more or less per order than Amazon, eBay and your own store for the same products. If a product is thin on B&Q, you can change price, trim the range, or leave it off. If it earns well, it may deserve more stock.

Practical steps

  • Connect your B&Q seller account so orders arrive automatically
  • Load your product costs
  • Sort products by margin and look at the bottom ten
  • Review refund rate on bulky or fragile items

An example

A seller lists a bulky item at £60. After Mirakl commission, delivery costs and an allocated share of returns, the order earns far less than the headline suggests. On a smaller item, the same percentage costs are lighter in absolute terms. Per-SKU profit shows which items suit the marketplace and which do not.

Is B&Q Marketplace worth it?

That depends on your products, prices and costs. The only reliable answer comes from your own profit per SKU, which is why we suggest measuring before scaling.

How do orders reach me?

Through your Mirakl-powered seller account. WhatSales reads those orders and applies the costs.

Can I compare B&Q with Amazon?

Yes. Connect both and compare net margin on the products you sell on each.

WhatSales connects to your B&Q seller account via Mirakl and shows profit per order and per SKU. See /integrations/b-and-q, and read about the underlying platform at /insights/mirakl-integration-for-marketplace-sellers.
