Amazon opens paid bidding for Sub Same Day as Q4 deadlines land

Amazon has started letting FBA sellers bid their way into Sub Same Day delivery in the same week that two Q4 deal deadlines land, and US online sales have just hit a record share of retail. If you sell across several channels, this is a week for checking dates and unit costs rather than starting anything new.

Amazon has put a price on its fastest delivery badge

Amazon has opened a bidding route into its Sub Same Day network, the one that delivers in two to five hours from dedicated fulfilment centres serving around 2,300 metro areas. Until now Amazon picked the eligible products itself from demand and supply signals, and that automatic placement continues free of charge. The new option lets you name a per-unit price to push products of your choosing into the same network.

The terms are fair on paper. Participation is optional, you are never charged more than the price you set, and you only pay for units that actually ship through Sub Same Day. But it is still a variable cost per unit sitting on top of your existing FBA fees, and the only honest test is net profit per unit before and after the bid, which is exactly what /profitability is built to catch.

Treat it like a bid, not a setting. Pick one or two SKUs where speed plausibly closes the sale, set a low per-unit price, and watch units and margin together in /performance for a couple of weeks before you widen it. Remember the stock has to sit in those metro fulfilment centres to qualify, so it is a placement decision as much as a pricing one.

The Q4 calendar is tight and demand is climbing

Two Amazon dates fall inside the next seven days. The $50 early-bird discount on Black Friday Week and Cyber Monday deal submissions runs only through 5 September. Prime Big Deal Days submissions close on 8 September for the 7-8 October event, and there is no late route in. Black Friday and Cyber Monday submissions themselves close on 20 October.

Cost the deals with peak fees included. A Peak Fulfilment Fee averaging $0.32 per unit stacks on the existing 3.5% surcharge from 15 October to 14 January. On a $30 item that is noise. On a $9 item at a thin margin it decides whether the deal is worth running at all, so work from your current fee position rather than last quarter's numbers.

The demand side argues for leaning in. Marketplace Pulse reports US ecommerce grew 12.2% in Q2, the fastest in five years, and reached a record 17.1% of all retail spending, the second straight quarter of double-digit growth. Under-buying stock is now the bigger risk than over-buying, so set your restock cover in /inventory against actual sell-through, not last year's peak.

Quick hits

  • Shopify: the Thank you and Order status pages were auto-upgraded on all non-Plus stores on 26 August and anything in the additional scripts field stopped working, while Managed Markets ended Delivered Duty Unpaid on 24 August - check your conversion tracking still reports and that international buyers now paying duty at checkout matches what your listings say.
  • eBay: a 2026 holiday selling guide has landed alongside four Seller Hub changes, including 4x6 label printing as one consolidated job and a combined shipping tag when a buyer orders more than once - small dispatch-desk wins that matter once Q4 volume climbs.
  • eBay: it now appears eBay will refund the buyer directly on Item Not Received claims where an eBay label was used, and German sellers must offer free returns on new car parts from 28 September, with tighter Top Service thresholds from 22 February 2027 - eBay labels shift more lost-parcel risk off your books.
  • TikTok Shop: enforcement of fulfilment metrics is tightening, with Late Dispatch Rate advised at 4% or under and On-Time Delivery Rate at 80% or above, and a paid Shop Plus membership is being tested at $6, $10 and $15 a month - late dispatches now cost visibility the way they do on Amazon.

On your radar next week

  • Amazon, 5 September: last day for the $50 early-bird discount on Black Friday Week and Cyber Monday deal submissions.
  • Amazon, 8 September: Prime Big Deal Days deal submissions close for the 7-8 October event.
  • Walmart, end of September: existing Delegated Access keys stop working, so reconnect your tools through the Walmart App Store on OAuth 2.0 before peak - see /integrations/walmart.
